Crystal Radio represents a culmination of the band member’s several years of composition, improvisation and performance. The members, Shaun Stevenson, John Fatta and Jeff Fineberg have performed in various bands over the years, such as Take 22, The Trees, X.A.M., State of Mind, Jerry Free, Remnants, Julius Scissor, RADO, Yes Process, Storm, The Option and others. Crystal Radio was formed in August of 2006 and has been working on a CD which is to be available in November 2008. Throughout the construction of the album, the motivating factor of the compositions is to create works that explore new boundaries of textures, pitch and rhythms, while at the same time having a lower priority for "popular consensus" of the works themselves. The methodology is to focus purely on the creative aspects of composition in order to explore new possibilities. In addition to pursuing the expansion of boundaries, a central theme of avoiding stylistic elements is considered throughout the creation process. It is therefore conceivable that the resulting material will consist of “Decategorized Sound” (and therefore the title of the album). Crystal Radio’s album “Decategorized Sound” contains a large spectrum of approaches to composition, construction and instrumentation. Works range from purely acoustic instrumentation (containing no electronics) to purely electronic, with the majority of the works blending a combination of these techniques.
